Shayne M. Melton is a 24-year Oklahoma law enforcement veteran. He served as a state investigator, deputy sheriff, and police officer. His past assignments included division supervisor and investigator of violent crimes, homicides, suicides, crimes against children, sexual assaults, stolen property, fraud, narcotics, and internal affairs. He was also federally cross-deputized, serving on a federal task force and two state task forces. Melton began his law enforcement career as a patrolman, promoting to patrol supervisor. Melton assumed additional roles as a crisis negotiator, crisis intervention team (CIT) member, and SWAT team member.
Melton is a graduate of the Oklahoma Peace Officer Certification Academy, where he graduated at the top of his class, receiving the High Academic Achievement Award. He has since attained an Advanced Law Enforcement Certification. Melton also attended Cameron University, where he majored in Criminal Justice.
Melton has been a state-certified law enforcement instructor for 19 years, developing and presenting training courses to local, state, and tribal law enforcement. This includes instruction at reserve peace officer academies, full-time peace officer academies, and in-service training.
